YES WE CAN!
but it's complicated

{that sort of came off sounding like an obama plug}

We as designers are now stepping over the line between art and design more often than ever before. In my opinion the line has forever been blurred for those of us who make good and personal design.

ART is an EXPERIENCE
not a quality

Everyone always tries to figure out what makes art good or worthy of acclaim but what they are forgetting is that it does not matter what everyone else thinks. Art is about the experience. How did you feel when you first saw Sagmeister's Cranbrook AIGA poster? Did it move you, make you feel awkward? Did you continue to think about it all day?

The failure of people's comprehension of design being art lies in their assumption that design is purely for corporate identity and advertising. Sure we would all like to make some money but...

our first wish as designers is to say something.

I think Sagmeister said it best,

"those who try to make money and good design fail at both."

The moral of the story here is that you should touch people's hearts with your design.
Put your blood, sweat and tears into your work. Go hungry, never sleep, work a crap job to pay for your tiny studio apartment
Eventually people will see and understand your commitment to great design in your work and they will reward you.
