I just got done yesterday posting about how design is art after reading Sagmeister.
{Question for Everyone}
how do you feel when people challenge your art? when people say that design is only career oriented and that what we do is not art, it is only a technical and calculated practice? how many of us have experienced this kind of criticism?
I did last night, it was especially hard to take because of who was saying it.

this is common criticism usually given out by people who don't really understand the full scope of design and the power that it has.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kate. We all know the amount of thinking and creativity that goes into making great design work. I am also a printmaking major and believe me, I have heard for years about the evils of graphic design, but once I got into the program it really was eye-opening. Design doesn't have to be about commerce and making money, although it is nice that it can lead to a job. Let's face it, everyone has to make a living somehow.
