Ghost Towns of Oregon: Day 3: Shaniko

{Shaniko}

This town was originally planned and built at the turn of the century as a railroad terminal. The railway was built to transport wool out of central Oregon to The Dalles. Many original buildings still stand in Shaniko including the water tower and the hotel. The town has become quite the tourist attraction but seems to have fallen on hard times again. The hotel is for sale as well as many other businesses.
